On this sleepless morning I found the following Youtube video... I remember seeing this couple in an early Tango Forever video a few years back. They were definitely my favorite then. I am so glad to see their dance again. And they use Derecho Viejo again.
I liked them most because the power and intensity in their dance is obvious, yet their presentation is so... calm. There is no exaggerated facial ｅxpression, no unnessarily arm gestures, no boiled-over passion dripping off the stage. All you see is their dancing and the music behind it.
It's a bit of a mystery to me as to how this is done - being very excited and passionate but also calm and composed at the same time, especially for stage performances. But I think that's Tango at its best - boiling emotions under a calm and elegant surface.
